‘NAHSAG Had to Battle With a Landlord Who Threatened a Legal Suit’ – Irene Nelly Osafo


The Official Commemoration of the NAHSAG @ 10 Anniversary Celebration saw a retrospective look into the old days of the association as participants deliberated on the way forward. 

The session received presentations from representatives of the various year groups.

Among subjects opened by the 2009/10 year group was a legal suit almost put at the feet of the association in 2009.

Order of the Volta: UHAS, Ho Wins NAHSAG Quiz Competition



Four member institutions of the National Health Students Association of Ghana (NAHSAG) have fought fiercely in a three-round quiz competition organized by the National Health Students’ Association of Ghana (NAHSAG). This was part of activities scheduled for the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the national group among others.

After series of bouts in the qualifying stages, the schools that made it into the final match were the College of Health, Kintampo (COHK), University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and University of Cape Coast (UCC).

The event took place on the GTV 'What Do You Know', hosted by Dan Afari-Yeboah on Sunday, 2nd August 2015 and was telecast live on the national television.
Contestants were tested on areas of the profile of NAHSAG, and MDGs 4, 5, 6.

This feat comes as a success to the University of Health and Allied Sciences as one of the top, fast-growing tertiary institutions in the area of health training.

Studio audience and viewers all over the country were impresses with the dexterity with which the contestants Heyman Peter Eric and Isaac Naandiribe answered the questions to victory.

University of Cape Coast placed second, whiles College of Health ranked third, with KNUST trailing.

GNMTA Reacts To Increment in Fees for Trainees

Leadership of the National Nurse-Midwife Trainees Association has registered its displeasure on an increment of school fees and has further called on its members in the various training institutions to refrain from making payments for the time being.

A statement issued on
17th of July, 2015 states:

The National Executive Board and the entire leadership of trainee’s nurses and midwives upon analysing the upheavals placed on trainees in the course of our training wish to air out our displeasure to the media and the public on the malignant increase in our semester-based school fees amidst the numerous challenges facing trainees.

After several follow ups and enquiries on the Ministry of Health approved standard fee for the academic semester proven futile, GNMTA wish to inform it members to adhere strictly to the following DIRECTIVES until further notice:

No student should pay the fees released by their training institutions until further notice.

We request that all local GNMTA representatives from member institutions submit copies of their bills to the national email address (gnmtanew@gmail.com) not later than Tuesday 21-07-2015 for quick response.

We therefore wish to inform all parties involved in the subject matter of this release to come together to arrive on unanimous and well appeasing decision on this HYPER INFLATED  SCHOOL FEES for the best of all.

8 Queens to Contest for the Enviable Face of NAHSAG Title

This will surely go down the annals of the National Health Students Association of Ghana as one of the most revered events, as this year marks her 10th Anniversary.

The Face of NAHSAG pageant, after its launch was opened to all woman in institutions with membership in the national union. These include tertiary institutions with training in one or more health-related discipline.

According to the Women’s Commisioner, the pageant which is scheduled for 31st July, 2015 at the University of Ghana, Legon will see the various contestants lock horns in varying ranges to be crowned a maiden Queen. The leadership notes that the pageant promises to be excitement and power-packed.

Having gone through the scrutiny process, here is a list of contestants who qualify for the challenge:

Goodwill Message from NUGS - NAHSAG AT 10


The National Union of Ghana Students is very happy that one of its blocs is  celebrating 10 years of imparting lives especially looking at the role that health education plays in the development of every country.

The National Health Students Association of Ghana (NAHSAG) has contributed tremendously towards providing leadership and health education for the students of Ghana.

NUGS, its mother body is very happy to be associated with the 10th anniversary and wish to commend its leaders, past and present for working hard to bring the association this far. It is one thing having an association and it is another thing sustaining it and making its relevance felt.

It takes visionary leadership to constantly identify the needs of members and work towards meeting them, it has taken true leadership to come this far.

I will once again want to wish NAHSAG a happy 10th anniversary on my own behalf and that of all National Officers as well as the entire students of Ghana.

Applications Opened for Face of NAHSAG 2015


The search for the face of NAHSAG has just began. This opportunity, as part of activities scheduled for the 10th Anniversary Celebration will crown one out of 20 contestants.

This maiden event is organised under the auspices of the Women’s Commissioner of NAHSAG.
The event will assess all contestants in order to bring out the best amongst them, and to equip them for special duties towards change within the health discipline.

Application is hereby opened to all women in the various member institutions of NAHSAG.

Kintampo College of Health to Battle KNUST, UCC, and UHAS in NAHSAG Quiz Finale



Climaxing the 10th Anniversary Celebration of NAHSAG will be the much revered inter-schools national quiz competition between College of Health Kintampo, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape Coast and University of Health and Allied Sciences.

The contention took off in February following a decision by its General Assembly. It embraces the areas of Background and Profile of NAHSAG, MDGs 4, 5 and 6 plus Current Affairs.

The kick-off in the northern sector started with five (5) health training associations in KNUST struggle for the lead.  
 
This intra-school qualifiers featured Nursing Students Association (NSA), Medical Laboratory Students Association (MEDLAB), Medical Students Association (MSA), Ultrasonography Students Association (USA), Ghana Association of Disability and Rehabilitation Students (GHADRES) .
At the end of the contest, KNUST Nursing Students Association came first, MEDLAB second, MSA third, USA fourth and GHADRES, fifth.

The following week was met with anxiety in the geographical center of Ghana, Kintampo College of Health:
  • Physician Assistant Students Association of Ghana (PASAG)
  • Oral Health Students Association of Ghana (OHSAG)
  • Medical Laboratory Technology Students Association (MELTSA)
  • Mental Health Students Association of Ghana (MEHSAG)
  • Ghana Union of Public Health Students (GUPHS)
The above schools in the college locked horns in 3 rounds of the contest, pushing PASAG to the lead and MELTSA in the second position.

The southern zone section was a combat between five associations.

University of Ghana was represented by University of Ghana Allied Health Students Association (UGAHSA).

From the University of Cape Coast came the Medical Laboratory Technology Students Association together with Optometry.

University of Health and Allied Sciences presented Medical Laboratory Science Students and Nursing Students Association.
At the end of the bout, the results were
University of Cape Coast – 1st
University of Health and Allied Sciences – 2nd
University of Ghana – 3rd

The grand finale of this national lock of horns is scheduled to take place on GTV’s quiz show, 'What Do You Know?' on 2nd August 2015.
